Who Are We?

JIMBROWORLD was born from the dream of a group of friends, nature lovers, to make wines and other natural products in protected areas of great ecological value.

The Arribes del Duero Natural Park is a unique natural area, with a high biodiversity of flora and fauna, located where the Duero borders Portugal. And it was on the banks of the River Duero where in 2010 the first steps of the project were taken and JIMBROWORLD was born.

The unique potential of minority autochthonous varieties in danger of disappearing, together with the depopulation of the area, made the towns of Fermoselle and Pinilla de Fermoselle become from the initial stages of the project, the base camp where to begin the hard work.

JIMBROWORLD is a global project where the vineyard and the winery are united by a single element; the desire to preserve the biodiversity of the area while contribute to the sustainable economic and human development of this territory. With this goal in mind, since 2015, the winemaking project joined a beekeeping project that encompasses the essential of our product philosophy.

The Vineyard

Our Roots

Our vineyard blends fully into the landscape, it is cultivated on terraces in a traditional way with techniques that are framed within an organic viticulture, without herbicides or insecticides, on small separate plots and surrounded by vegetation that protects them.

From the beginning, the project is focused on the recovery of autochthonous and emblematic varieties of the área and which are in danger of extinction, such as Puesta en Cruz for White wines and Bruñal for red wines, both of which are perfectly suited to the great diversity of soils and the microclimate of the Arribes del Duero.

Currently, our vineyard covers a total of 20 hectares, with both Puesta en Cruz and Bruñal vines, and we continue working with other minority varieties such as Rufete and Juan García

The age of the vineyard varies from the oldest with more than 115 years to the youngest around 12 years old. In all of them we have carried out recovery work since they were totally abandoned, through structural changes, grafting techniques and the planting of new plots, all prioritizing respect for the environment.

Equally, the annual production of our vines is very limited, and we hope that enjoyment of one of our bottles will be an enriching experience prompting reflection among all lovers of natural spaces and of products created in a sustainable manner in these environments.

Wine Boutique

The production of our wines begins in the vineyard, not in the winery. We harvest manually, in boxes, selecting the plots at the point of optimum ripeness before producing the wine in the traditional manner, respecting the characteristics of our soil, climate and grape varieties, which are what make us different from the rest. Production on our vineyards is very low, never exceeding 2,500 kilos per hectare, and this concentration lends a great expressiveness and character to our wines.

Our Wines

2015 Jimbro - 100% Bruña

Made from 100% Bruñal autochthonous variety from our recovered vines located in Fermoselle, Zamora province. Once produced, the wine is stored in French oak barrels for 16 months. After bottling, it is stored in the bottle for one year before being released for sale.

Jimbro Bruñal is a clear example of our product philosophy: a wine with great expressiveness, concentration and elegance. The sensory profile of the Bruñal variety, along with our cultivation practices and the region’s soils, allow us to produce a wine with a distinctive character.

jimbro-brunal

We have 6 hectares of vines, some of which are newly planted while others originate from hundred-year-old vineyards, in which we have carried out recovery works using grafting techniques.

Bruñal is a highly exclusive, older grape variety which was planted in the early 20th century, after a phylloxera outbreak wiped out all of the vineyards in Arribes del Duero. It is a very special grape which can only be found in this winegrowing region, and about whose origin we possess very little information. It produces small bunches of small grapes, which are notably rich in sugars yet balanced, with a high polyphenol content and rather sweet tannins. The Bruñal variety was officially recognised on the official list issued by the Registry of Commercial Grape Varieties in 2011.

The Bruñal vines are located in Fermoselle, at the very heart of the Arribes del Duero Natural Park. The soils are characterised by a high percentage of sand with coarse elements, and normal levels of stoniness, with a strong presence of slate. These are poor-quality, shallow and acidic soils which provide adequate conditions for winegrowing.

2015 Jimbro - 100% Puesta en Cruz

Made from 100% Puesta en Cruz autochthonous variety, selected from among the older vines in the area. Once produced, the wine is stored in new French oak barrels, and aged on lees for a little under a year. After bottling, it is stored in the bottle for one year before being released for sale.

jimbro-puesta-en-cruz

Jimbro Puesta en Cruz is an accurate expression of the land on which it is produced. It is a wine full of character, highly aromatic, and with a magnificent acidity affording it a longer lifespan than most white wines. With our Jimbro Puesta en Cruz, we have attempted to revive the old concept of white wines: elegant wines with a long lifespan, and full of complexity.

The grapes used to produce Jimbro White come from vines located in Pinilla de Fermoselle. With its unique soil composition, this is excellent land for cultivating vines.

We currently work around 10 hectares of old vines, some of which are more than 100 years old. These are divided into small plots situated on slopes, and in many cases terraced with a planting distance (1.5 x 1.5) which precludes mechanisation, obliging us to plough using traditional methods with mules.

Our project focuses on recovering lost autochthonous varieties with significant winemaking potential, which have been ignored and abandoned by the sector for a long time due to their low yields and difficulty of cultivation, to the extent that they have almost disappeared.
For several years, we have conducted field research on the Puesta en Cruz variety, identifying various clones, analysing their behaviour and choosing the best in a quest to obtain the best possible quality.

2016 Jimbro3 - Bruñal - Rufete - Juan García

Jimbro3 is the perfect union of 3 red grape varieties found in the hundred-year-old vineyards of Las Arribes del Duero. Three great unknown Bruñal, Rufete and Juan García that together give rise to a great wine with a unique character, singular elegance and harmony.

jimbro-jimbro3

During the first steps of the JIMBROWORLD winemaking project, we focused our efforts on the recovery of the Bruñal grape variety, which for different reasons at the end of the 20th century was at risk of disappearing and being lost forever from the genetic register of varieties. It was during this work to preserve and recover the Bruñal variety that we found other varieties scattered among the old vineyards in the area, some of them of great oenological interest. Thanks to this almost daily contact, little by little we got to know these fantastic varieties and the protagonists of JIMBRO3.

JIMBRO3 is made from grapes from vineyards, all of them centenary, located in the towns of Fermoselle, Pinilla and Aldeadavila de la Ribera. These vineyards are witnesses of another era, of another way of working and understanding the cultivation of the vine. They have been able to resist different waves of abandonment of the rural environment thanks to the immense work of the people of the area, all of them being Giants of what is now called Heroic Viticulture. It has been thanks to this anonymous group of men and women that today we can still enjoy these incredible vineyards that have survived the depopulation of this entire area of Spain and the mechanization of the sector.
