Loch Lomond

Our Company

Loch Lomond Group
The Loch Lomond Group is an independent distiller and blender of some of the finest and rarest scotch whiskies in the world. Our heritage is amongst the oldest in our industry.
Our History
In March 2014 we acquired the Loch Lomond Distillery Company – and with it, a history which goes back to at least 1772 with the founding of the Littlemill distillery.

In 1814, the original site of the Loch Lomond distillery was established near Tarbet towards the north west end of Loch Lomond. In 1832, the Glen Scotia distillery was founded in Campbeltown and is one of only three distilleries remaining in Campbeltown from that era.

Our portfolio includes the Loch Lomond single malt, which is distilled and matured on the ‘bonnie banks’, and Glen Scotia, a Campbeltown malt from the Victorian ‘whisky capital of the world’, as well as several high quality blends. Each is a fine example of its region and style, redolent of the landscape and history which has shaped Scotland’s unique spirit.

Our People

Traditions and Skills
Our people inject passion and energy into the crafting of our brands. We combine centuries old traditions with innovation expertly implemented by our skilled and dedicated teams.

As for our people, they’ve amassed whole lifetimes of shared experience. From coopers and maltsters to stillmen and blenders, our men and women share a deep love and knowledge of their craft. The same is true of our suppliers – whether we’re sourcing American oak bourbon casks or buying grain from Scottish farmers, we work with experts we know and trust.

Our people are as vital to our brands as grain, malt and water. After all, in whisky, there’s no substitute for a good eye, a subtle palate and an experienced nose.

Michael Henry

After graduating, Michael worked in brewing for ten years until joining Loch Lomond Distillery in 2007 where he has been at the helm as Master Blender since 2014.

Michael explains: “Although Loch LomondGroup has a small team it has a large capability for what can be done. We understand the distilling process so intrinsically we can vary this to achieve the exact flavour we want before the whisky enters the cask. As we are in control of the process at every stage we have a real opportunity to shape the whisky.”

«It is an honour to be able to create a product that plays such a key part in people’s significant milestones».

Responsability & Sustainability

Scotch whisky is a natural product crafted in some of the most beautiful environments in the world – and few more wonderful than our homeland of loch lomond. Loch lomond group is proud of our heritage, the quality and professionalism of our team and how we work together and the positive impact that we can have on our environment and society.

We ensure that we comply not only with the letter of all relevant standards and requirements applying to our industry but also with their spirit, always seeking to do what we do in a responsible and sustainable manner which creates something valuable, for the long term and which we can always be proud of.

Anti Bribery & Corruption

At Loch Lomond Group we are committed to ensuring that the highest standards of honesty and integrity are maintained.

We recognise that market practice varies across the countries in which we do business. However, we are fully committed to complying with our obligations under applicable legislation world-wide, including the Bribery Act 2010.

We operate a zero-tolerance approach to the offering, seeking, giving or receiving of bribes or corruption in any form, anywhere in the world. This type of behaviour is absolutely prohibited.

Our Anti-Bribery and Corruption Policy is used to communicate this message and to assist our employees and the business partners working with us to uphold it.

We will always give our full support to anyone who speaks out against bribery or corruption.

Environmental

Our management of environmental issues is important to us and our stakeholders and a key determinant of the long term success of Loch Lomond Group. We always take into account the environmental impact of what we do, with a particular focus on areas of greatest potential impact at our production facilities and offices and also within our supply chain.

Throughout our operations, we will consider the environmental implications of every major business decision that we make.

Scotch Whisky is a natural product which has been elaborated for centuries in harmony with the environment. We are proud of that heritage, but also conscious that spirit and other potentially hazardous items are stored at our sites and this could create a risk of environmental damage.

We operate extensive and stringent Health & Safety policies and procedures and work closely with appropriate regulatory bodies such as the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency.

We are committed to further reducing the environmental impact of our operations through the efficient use of resources, the reduction of waste and carbon emissions, transport planning and the careful handling of hazardous substances.

We encourage our employees and business partners to conduct activities in an environmentally responsible manner, by:

(a) Supporting local environmental sustainability initiatives, such as energy saving, green travel or waste reduction programmes;

(b) Challenging unsustainable activities, such as wasteful use of water and other natural resources, lack of effective recycling and failure to consider environmental impacts in business decisions; and

(c) Being vigilant with respect to reporting any environmental risks, hazards, or situations which do not look or feel right – including any potential regulatory breaches.

Alongside our promotion of positive relationships with all key regulatory bodies, we also ensure that we maintain and perform to appropriate standards. These include ISO 9001, Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) registration and other appropriate Controlled Activity regulations and licences.

Quality & Food Safety Policy

It is the established policy of Loch Lomond Group to provide products and services which meet both our customer and legislative requirements.

We meet our quality objectives by having a certified Quality Management System, meeting the ISO 9001:2015 standard. For distillation we operate under ISO 9001:2015 certification for the distillation, maturation, blending and sale of Scotch Whisky.

We are also Soil Association certified to the Soil Association’s organic standards and regulations (EC) No 834/2007 and 889/2008 certified for organic Loch Lomond Grain whisky and organic Loch Lomond Malt Scotch whisky.

The company achieves its food safety objectives by having a certified Management System, meeting the BRC Food Global Standard for Food Safety
The Company is fully committed to achieving continuous improvement.

Responsible Marketing & Alcohol In Society

We ensure that our brands are advertised and marketed responsibly and that all of our activities (including use of digital media) that communicate about and market our brands are in line with appropriate industry guidelines. We ensure that all marketing and promotional activities are in keeping with both the letter and the spirit of all applicable national laws and that any third parties engaged in marketing and promotional activities on LLG’s behalf are made aware of and apply this policy.

Bottling Plant

Glen Catrine

The glen catrine bonded warehouse was established in 1974 and is one of the largest independent bottling plants in scotland. As well as whisky, it bottles other spirits in the loch lomond group’s portfolio, including vodka, gin, rum and brandy on the same premises.

At Loch Lomond in Alexandria, we’ve recently invested £15 million in brand new stills, and we can make fine single malts and some of the best grain whisky in Scotland in the same premises. Our bottling plant at Glen Catrine in Ayrshire is one of the biggest and most efficient in Scotland, and currently produces more than 65 million bottles of whisky and other spirits each year.

Meanwhile in Campbeltown, our Glen Scotia distillery still looks much as it did in the 19th century when Duncan MacCallum constructed the malting floors that form the imposing frontage on the town’s High Street. It’s said the spirit of MacCallum haunts the building to this day, yet the distillery was refitted at the turn of the millennium, following 15 ‘silent’ years, and today is in a full and steady production line.
