Discover our legacy

The brand, along with its values, dates back to 1853 when Louis Royer – a cellar master and son of a renowned local stonemason – founded a Cognac House under his name in Jarnac, the small town known as «the home of craft cognacs».

Louis Royer infuses this house with his humanist values, his generosity, his love of a job well done, his sense of teamwork, his patience and his desire to reveal and offer the best that the fruit can offer.

  • Louis Royer was founded in 1853, when Louis, cellar master and son of a renowned stonemason, decided to build his Cognac house in Jarnac, considered by many as the home of craft cognacs.
  • As a passionate beekeeper, the bee naturally became a symbol of his cognacs and of his dedication.

  • His hard work, his patience and generosity all showed in the exceptional fruity cognacs that he produced.
  • Still a family business today, we continue to age our oak casks in our traditional warehouses on the banks of the Charente River.
  • We remain true to the values of our founder, with each bottle that we produce a reflection of the skills and passion of our people, from vine to glass.

Exceptional care, from vine to glass

Vine to Glass

We are able to manage the entire creative process ourselves, using our craft and skills, honed over generations, to best work with nature’s rhythm and thus better honor the fruit.

The vineyard

The journey begins in our vineyard in Grande Champagne, where we allow the fruit to grow to its optimum ripeness before we pick and press.

Distillation

Our Cognacs are double distilled in 9 copper pot stills, from October until March 31st of the year following the harvest.

Ageing

As one of the few Cognac houses to retain traditional cellars along the banks of the Charente River, we benefit from year-round natural temperatures and humidity that enable the smooth development, through the ageing process, of Louis Royer’s mellow and signature full-fruit style.

Our promise

With our own vineyard, distillery, cellars and bottling facility strengthened by the experience passed down through five generations of the Louis Royer family, we expertly manage and control every step of the process ourselves from vine to glass.

Only the finest mild and fruity Cognacs

Louis Royer Cognacs offer a singular style, combining a generous fruitiness to a round and smooth palate.
Optimal production conditions and strict control of the woody notes induced by ageing in barrels allow us to obtain this unique aromatic profile.

We are one of the few houses with cellars on the very banks of the Charente. Be it during summer or winter, the natural humidity and constant temperature in our cellars contribute to the generosity and elegance of our Cognacs.
